Best square hot tub in the UK: 12 models compared

Updated October 2026

A square hot tub tucks into the corner of a patio and gives everyone a flat side to lean on. We list 12 square tubs on this site, from a £400 inflatable to a £1,899 rigid frame. We have not sat in or filled any of them. The ranking below comes from the spec sheets and our scoring method, so you can check every point yourself.

Why pick a square tub

  • It fits a corner. A round tub in a corner wastes the space behind it. A square one sits flush against two walls or fences.
  • More room for legs. At the same width, a square tub has more floor than a round one. A 180 cm square tub covers 3.24 m², a 180 cm round tub about 2.54 m².
  • More water to heat. That extra floor means extra water. The Wave Garda 6 (square, 180 cm, 70 cm high) holds 1,100 litres. The Wave Atlantic 6 (round, 180 cm, 65 cm high) holds 800 litres.

So a square tub gives you more space for the same width, and you pay for it in heating.

Best overall: Lay-Z-Spa Stockholm

The Stockholm has a ThermaCore foam wall, and Lay-Z-Spa claims it is up to 60 % more efficient than its air walls. The heater sits inside the wall, so there is no pump box on the patio, and you control it from an app. It has 140 air jets and a 2-year guarantee.

The catch: at 164 cm it is the smallest square Lay-Z-Spa we list, and it is sold for 4 to 6 people. Plan on three or four adults. It also weighs 74 kg empty, so you will want two people to move it. It had 4.2 stars from 19 reviews when we checked, one short of the 20 we need before a rating counts in our score.

Best value: Lay-Z-Spa Rome

At £530 the Rome works out at about £88 a seat. You get an EnergySense insulated liner (the maker claims up to 40 % more efficient), a heater built into the wall, app control and 140 air jets. Buyers gave it 4.5 stars from 25 reviews.

It is still an inflatable, so it loses more heat than the foam Stockholm. If you mostly use it from spring to autumn, that matters less.

Best for a massage: Lay-Z-Spa Maldives

Only two square tubs here list a water jet count. The Maldives has 8 HydroJets on top of 180 AirJets, plus a foot massager, for £1,000. The bigger Lay-Z-Spa San Francisco has 10 HydroJets, three loungers and a bench for £1,219, but it measures 230 cm across and weighs 94.7 kg empty.

Both have few reviews (3.8 stars from 8 for the Maldives, 3.2 from 9 for the San Francisco), so read them before you buy. Both use a separate pump box. More in our water jets guide.

Best foam alternative: Wave Garda 6

The Garda 6 holds 1,100 litres behind a WaveEco foam wall with a PU core. The heater is built in, you get app control, and Wave quotes about £2 a day to hold 40 °C. That is the maker's figure, not ours. It has 90 air jets, fewer than the Lay-Z-Spa tubs, and only 4 reviews so far. See it next to the Stockholm on Lay-Z-Spa Stockholm vs Wave Garda 6.

The rigid-frame squares

MSpa makes three of the square tubs. The Aero Plus has a TempXcel insulation layer between the frame and the liner, 1,150 litres and a 1,100 W hydrotherapy pump, though MSpa does not publish the water jet count. The Oslo has wood-effect panels and weighs 118 kg empty. The Tribeca adds a UVC sanitiser. All three run from a 13 A plug, and none of their listings shows a maker's guarantee. Our rigid-frame guide goes through them.

The budget squares

The Arebos Barcelona 6 and Nordivale Square 4-6 both measure 185 cm and hold 910 litres for under £500. The Arebos has the most reviews of any square tub here (4.2 stars from 549), an 1,800 W heater and a thermal cover and floor mat in the box. The Nordivale has its heater in the wall and an RCD plug. Neither listing shows a maker's guarantee, which costs both of them points.

The Wave Pacific 4 costs £400 and has its heater in the wall plus a FrostFree mode, but Wave does not publish its size. Ask the seller before you measure your corner.

Before you order

  1. Measure the corner and add room to climb in and to lift the lid off.
  2. Check where the pump box goes on tubs without a built-in heater.
  3. Work out the weight. Water weighs 1 kg a litre, so the Garda 6 holds 1,100 kg of water before anyone gets in. Read where to put a hot tub.

Quick answers

Does a square tub cost more to run? For the same width it holds more water, so the first heat costs more. After that the wall decides most of the bill. See foam, inflatable or frame.

Do square tubs seat more people? Not on paper. Most of these are sold for 6, the same as round tubs of the same width. You just get more space for legs.
